Développement d’un cadre Bayésien pour l’évaluation de stocks à données limitées et élaboration de scénarios de gestion, cas particuliers de la seiche (Sepia officinalis) et du lieu jaune (Pollachius pollachius) ArchiMer
Alemany, Juliette.
The assessment and the management of sh stocks aim at achieving a sustainable exploitation of the resources provided by the oceans. While progress have been made in this eld for some stocks of great commercial importance, the situation is di erent for the so-called "data limited" stocks. Often historically less exploited, these stocks do not  benefit from the same economical resources nor workforce to conduct the stock assessments required to set management measures. This work is based on two case studies, pollack (Pollachius pollachius) and cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis). The aim is to investigate the stock assessment methods adapted to data-limited situations. A first introductive part presents the background of fish stock assessment as well as the two...

Etude de la variabilité spatio-temporelle des caractéristiques physiologiques des jeunes stades de vie de la seiche Sepia officinalis L. en Manche. ArchiMer
Safi, Georges.
The common cuttlefish Sepia officinalis, is a major exploited marine resource in the English Channel. It has strong seasonal and interannual variations in recruitment. Mechanisms affecting the renewal of the stock by the arrival of new “recruits” and their number need to be better understood. Thus the study of the spatial and temporal variability of “pre-recruits” physiological characteristics was conducted in four spawning sites of the Channel [i.e. Agon Coutainville (FR), Baie de Seine (FR), Selsey (UK) and Torbay (UK)]. The studied parameters were the eggs quality and hatching rate then, the digestive and immune performance of juveniles in relation to local environmental conditions. English eggs have a delayed hatching time and higher hatching rate when...

Infragravity waves: from driving mechanisms to impacts ArchiMer
Bertin, Xavier; De Bakker, Anouk; Van Dongeren, Ap; Coco, Giovanni; Andre, Gael; Ardhuin, Fabrice; Bonneton, Philippe; Bouchette, Frederic; Castelle, Bruno; Crawford, Wayne C.; Davidson, Mark; Deen, Martha; Dodet, Guillaume; Guerin, Thomas; Inch, Kris; Leckler, Fabien; Mccall, Robert; Muller, Heloise; Olabarrieta, Maitane; Roelvink, Dano; Ruessink, Gerben; Sous, Damien; Stutzmann, Eleonore; Tissier, Marion.
Infragravity (hereafter IG) waves are surface ocean waves with frequencies below those of wind-generated "short waves" (typically be- low 0.04 Hz). Here we focus on the most common type of IG waves, those induced by the presence of groups in incident short waves. Three related mechanisms explain their generation: (1) the development, shoaling and release of waves bound to the short-wave group envelopes (2) the modulation by these envelopes of the location where short waves break, and (3) the merging of bores (breaking wave front, resembling to a hydraulic jump) inside the surfzone. When reaching shallow water (O(1-10 m)), IG waves can transfer part of their energy back to higher frequencies, a process which is highly dependent on beach slope. On gently...

Les flottilles de pêche des pertuis charentais vues du ciel – Synthèse des campagnes 2004-2005-2006 ArchiMer
Leaute, Jean-pierre.
To identify and estimate the evolution of use of fishing areas operated by professionals fishing vessels in Pertuis charentais, from 2004 to 2006, 3 surveys (40 aerial census) were carried out between May and October. The connection with the species landed by these vessels, and the link with bottom of the sea operated by them was studied. Landings of sole (Solea solea) and cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) were specifically studied.

Ressources halieutiques hors quotas du Nord Est Atlantique : bilan des connaissances et analyse de scénarios d'évolution de la gestion ArchiMer
Forest, Andre.
Part of the resources caught in the North Sea, Channel or Atlantic Sea do not fall under the « TAC and Quotas » strand of the Common Fisheries Policy, but the European Union may propose that such measures may eventually be applied to them. Usually these resources do not undergo regular assessments. This study focuses on « ex quota » stocks fished by French fleets, in order to assess knowledge concerning them and analyse possible trends in their management. It was contracted with funding from the Maritime fisheries and aquaculture directorate. Thirty-four species in all were chosen with respect to their interest for French fleets and the probability of Europe's adopting supplementary management measures for them. Available data is sometimes patchy (or not...

Simulation of tides, residual flow and energy budget in the Gulf of California ArchiMer
Carbajal, N; Backhaus, Jo.
With the application of a two-dimensional nonlinear hydrodynamical-numerical semi-implicit model, the principal tides M(2), S(2), K(2), N(2), K(1), P(1) and O(1) were studied. Energy budgets of the semi-diurnal M(2) and S(2) were calculated separately. The linear sum of these budgets was compared with the tidal energy budget obtained when these two tidal constituents interact. Since a quadratic form for the bottom friction was used, remarkable differences were found. The results show that in the area of the Colorado River delta, the dissipation of tidal energy is very strong. Intense tidal currents were observed in the same region and over the Salsipuedes Sill. Energy budgets calculated for forcing waves of different periods, but of the same amplitude,...
